This room contains exhibits relating to periods which can be defined as “pre-Roman” and Roman. Many, especially in the upper Valley of the Senio, are pre-Roman artifacts. These are fragments of bucchero, a figuline cup, a jug in purified clay, an impasto goblet, miniature jars, necklace beads and bronze fragments. The model in the centre of the room is a reconstruction of the pre-Roman settlement of Il Nevale, north of Palazzuolo, where the Soprintendenza Archeologica per la Toscana has carried out excavations with have unearthed two building structures, allowing the recovery of a large quantity of ceramic material, including an Etruscan cup painted with the “red-figure” technique.
Many artifacts relating to Roman times testifies that, in this period, the upper basin of the Lamone and the Senio valley north of Palazzuolo were densely populated.
Of particular interest are the finds from the Lutirano site, where the remains of a processing plant and a farm of the Julio-Claudian period were found, and the site of Le Ari where excavations brought to light a complex settlement the first construction of which most likely dates to the Imperial Age.
